BackgroundPurpose The Parish School of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church was founded for the purpose of instructing members of the parish, both young and old, in the teachings and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church as taught and professed by all Catholics prior to the Second Vatican Council. As such, the material taught here is traditional Roman Catholic doctrine. It is mandatory that all those involved in public education attend these classes, no matter what level of school the student is in. Please read this important announcement from Fr. Vaillancourt regarding the parish CCD classes. (Click here for PDF version.) CLASSES BEGIN SEPTEMBER 27, 2009. Information Regarding Our Sunday Catechism Classes (CCD Classes) for the School Year 2009 - 2010 It is our special emphasis that the instructions will, at all levels, be given so as to make the Faith of the student a living one. While the instructors are concerned that the student learns each lesson as it is presented, he or she will also strive to make sure that the student also understands the spirit of these lessons to the end that each student can solidly defend every doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church when it is challenged before them. Thus, no matter what is taught, the teacher will insist that the student learns each lesson in an apologetical manner, not being satisfied with merely knowing the material taught, but also understanding it according to the requirements of their age and condition. Times for Class Classes are conducted each Sunday from 9:45 through 10:30 a.m. The exceptions to this are the The First Sunday of October (Forty Hours Devotions), November 22 (Christmas Sale by Sisters), December 6 (St. Nicholas Day), Sundays during the Christmas Season (December 20 through January 10), February 7 (Lenten Sale by Sisters), Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, Low Sunday and Mothers’ Day. Classes end this year on May 30. Classes start precisely at 9:45 a.m. All those attending classes at every level are asked to be present and seated when class is scheduled to begin. It is both unfair and uncharitable to the teacher and the students to come in late, thus disrupting the class being taught. Classes begin when the doors are closed by each teacher. Anyone coming late to class will not be admitted once the door is closed. Sacramental Preparation Those students who are preparing for their First Confession, First Holy Communion or Confirmation will be expected to learn all that their teacher requires of them, whether oral or written. No student will be allowed to receive these Sacraments with their respective classes if all scholastic work is not completed as requested by each teacher, and if more than three classes are missed throughout the year. All students preparing for the Sacraments (in our school or studying at home) must pass the review of the teacher selected by the Pastor for this purpose before the Sacrament can be received. Homework Students are expected to complete all homework assignments as presented by their teachers in a timely manner. Those absent from class when homework is presented will be expected to complete it. Fee There is no fee, as such, for the classes taught at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, since they are open to all members of the parish who support the church through their weekly tithe donations. However, since the teachers do not receive a stipend from the church for their work (our tithing is not sufficient to allow for this), any contribution toward a stipend for the K - 12 teachers, monthly or as one total sum, will be prayerfully appreciated.
